🚨 Emergency Situations

1) Look at the photo and the Fact Box. In what situations do you need to call an emergency number?

Suggested Answer: You should call an emergency number in accidents, fires, or crimes.

2) In pairs, work out the meaning of the highlighted words. In each emergency decide if you should call the police, ambulance or fire service, or deal with it yourself.

a) A car knocked down a girl. She's got a few cuts and bruises and she's in shock.
Call an ambulance.

b) A neighbour fainted and is unconscious; it might be a heart attack.
Call an ambulance.

c) The school fire alarm is ringing.
Call the fire service.

d) You want to report a crime.
Call the police.

e) You hurt your head. You're not bleeding but it's painful and you're seeing double – you think you have a concussion.
Go to a doctor, maybe call an ambulance.

f) Your neighbour is asking for help: a candle fell over, setting fire to her curtains.
Call the fire service.

g) Your little brother burnt his hand while cooking.
Treat at home or see a doctor.

h) A shop in your street is burning down.
Call the fire service and maybe the police.

Student B (Mr. Almoshen): Omar slipped and injured himself, so I called an ambulance.
