REPORTED SPEECH GRAMMAR
1 'I'm fed up!'
2 Jameela told Manal she was fed up.
a Which is a quote and which is a report?
Sentence 1 is a quote and Sentence 2 is a report.
b How is the verb form in the report different from the one in the quote?
The verb form in the quote is Present Simple and the verb form in the report is Past Simple.

Time expressions also change: yesterday → the day before; the last time → the time before; tomorrow → the day after

I said that I didn't want to watch that programme. I told her/Malak that I didn't want to watch that programme.
4. PRACTICE EXERCISES
- 'I'm your mother, you're my son, we're family.' (Sawsan to Ziad)
Sawsan told Ziad that she was his mother, he was her son and they were family. - 'I can't take it anymore.' (Khaled)
Khaled said he couldn't take it anymore. - 'Malak's looking for you.' (Muneer to Raed)
Muneer told Raed that Malak was looking for him. - 'I've made a decision.' (Sami)
Sami said that he had made a decision. - 'We'll keep on trying, we won't give up.' (Fadia)
Fadia said that they would keep on trying, that they wouldn't give up. - 'Jaber took out the recycling and then left.' (Noura to Lama)
Noura told Lama that Jaber had taken out the recycling and then he left. - 'You have no idea what you're talking about.' (Laila to Hussein)
Laila told Hussein that he had no idea what he was talking about. - 'I don't like talking about other people but I've heard some news.' (Amina to Nadia)
Amina told Nadia that she didn't like talking about other people but that she had heard some news.
