📖 Exercise 1: Story Telling

In pairs, use the pictures and the words in the box to tell a story. Then read the story below and compare it to yours.

✍️ Exercise 3: Story Analysis

Study the Writing box and answer questions 1–6:
1 From which point of view is the story written, first or third person?

Answer: Third person.

2 Where does the story take place?

Answer: At the beach/sea.

3 What information does the writer give in the first line?

Answer: Details about the weather and location.

4 What is the main event in the story?

Answer: A lifeguard punches a shark and saves a surfer.

5 How does the writer finish the story?

Answer: By showing a decision — Muneer decides to become a lifeguard.

6 Which tenses has the writer used to describe the action?

Answer: Past Simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect.

📝 Exercise 5: Descriptive Adjectives

The underlined adjectives in the story on page 34 help the reader to visualise characters, events and objects. Write these as a list and add more adjectives that are suitable for the story.

🎤 Exercise 6: First Person Narrative

Work in pairs. Imagine you are the surfer in the story. Together, tell the story from the surfer's first person point of view.

I was surfing when I suddenly saw a huge dark fin near me. I panicked and shouted for help. My heart was beating fast as I tried to reach the shore. Then I realized it wasn’t a shark—it was just a dolphin! I felt so relieved and started to laugh.

Writing Task: Write a short story. Use the Writing box and your own ideas or the story you told in Exercise 6.
