💬 Exercise 1: Photo Discussion

In pairs, describe the photo. Who are the people? Where are they? Why are they there? How do they feel?

Answer: Samer and his grandad. In a hospital. Samer's grandad is ill.

📖 Exercise 2: Reading Messages

Read the notes and messages 1–7 and say who wrote each message and who they wrote it to.

1. Samer's mum → Samer

2. Samer → himself

3. Samer → Samer's mum

4. Samer → Hamed (neighbor)

5. Samer's mum → Hamed

6. Samer's mum → Samer's grandad

7. Samer → Samer's mum

Exercise 3: Read the notes again and answer the questions.
  1. Why is Samer's Grandad in hospital?
    He had a possible heart attack.
  2. What three ideas does Samer have for a present for his dad?
    Chocolates, grapes or a book
  3. What time does the bus to Hereford leave London? What time does it arrive?
    It leaves London at 11.30 and arrives in Hereford at 15.40.
  4. What does he ask Hamed to do?
    He asks him to look after Cleo and water the plants.
  5. How does Samer want to get to the hospital from Hereford bus station?
    He wants his mum to pick him up (or he'll take a taxi).

WRITING | A note/short message

What to leave out:

Greetings (Dear..., Best wishes)
Pronouns (I, you, he, she)
Auxiliary verbs (be, do, have)
Verb 'to be' and 'the'

What to use:

Contractions & initials
Emoticons 😊
Imperatives
Bullet points •
Write the full forms of sentences 1–9 from the messages:

1. I tried to call you but there was no answer.

2. It's bad news.

3. Do you think you can water the plants?

4. Check out the London – Hereford buses.

5. Get Hamed to water the plants.

6. I have to go home.

7. The instructions are on the fridge.

8. The jug is in the top cupboard.

9. I am on the bus now. It gets in at 3.40 p.m.

Exercise 6: Transform the letter into a note.

Original Letter:
Dear Jameela, I hope you feel better. Thanks for looking after Grandma. Her medicine is in the cupboard next to the door. Don't forget to make her a cup of tea in the morning and in the afternoon. Her favourite mug is next to the sink. I'm back on Sunday at ten o'clock. Kisses, Zeinab

🎯 Exercise 7: Writing Task

WRITING TASK: Choose a situation below and write a short note.

📚 Situation 1

You have an English exam next Wednesday at ten. Write a note to remind yourself to go to a friend's house at the weekend to study for it.

🎬 Situation 2

You phone a cinema to get information about a film. Write a post-it note to a friend with the key information and ask if he/she wants to go with you.
