Complete the collocations for household chores with the words from the box.

Exercise 3: Make more household chores using verbs and nouns.

WATCH OUT! Verb Usage

Use DO with:

the chores/the housework
the dishes/the windows
the cooking/the cleaning
the washing-up/the ironing

Use MAKE with:

your bed
breakfast/a meal
a cup of tea/a sandwich

🔌 Exercise 5: Home Appliances

In pairs, say what we use these home appliances to do.

dishwasher - to wash and dry the dishes

freezer - to freeze food

fridge - to keep food fresh/cool

iron - to make clothes flat/smooth

kettle - to boil water

microwave - to cook or heat up food

oven - to cook food

vacuum cleaner - to clean the house/remove dust

washing machine - to wash clothes

🤖 Exercise 6: Technology & Chores

In groups, think of chores we don't have to do anymore because of technology.

Example: Thanks to the vacuum cleaner we don't have to sweep the floor with a brush, and thanks to the washing machine, we don't have to wash clothes by hand.

Thanks to the dishwasher, we don't have to wash dishes in the sink.

Thanks to the kettle, we don't have to heat water in an oven/a fire.

Thanks to the microwave, we don't have to reheat food in the oven.

Thanks to the fridge and freezer, we don't have to use ice or snow to keep food fresh.
